Description: The most striking feature of the standing gryphon is his regal bearing. The 38"-tall gryphon looks dramatic standing In a vestibule or entryway in the tradition of medieval heraldry. This fabulous beast, which is half bird and half lion dates back as early as ancient Persia. Our Victorian rendition is adapted from an architectural element carved in wood. He is perhaps the most spectacular of all the fabulous beasts that posess supernatural powers. In the Middle Ages the feathers of griffins were thought to have magical powers.
